How It Works
Design & Planning
A well-designed kitchen should reflect the way you live, not the way a catalogue is laid out. Every room has its own challenges, every household has its own routines, and every budget has its own priorities. That’s why our design process begins with your home, not a brochure.
Every kitchen we design starts from the same two questions: what does this room need to do for you, and what is actually possible within its walls, its budget, and its timeframe? Everything below, the free consultation, the home visit, the 3D layout, the honest conversation about spend, exists to answer those two questions properly before a single unit gets ordered.
Your Free Design Consultation
Every project starts with a phone call or a visit to our Ongar showroom, where we talk through roughly what you’re after, style, must-haves, rough budget, before anything gets measured. There’s no pressure and no obligation at this stage; it is simply a conversation to work out whether we are the right fit for your project, and for you to see enough of our ranges in person to know if any of them catch your eye.

How Long the Design Process Takes
From Design Sign-Off to Installation Day
Once you’re happy and ready to go ahead, your design gets handed over to our fitting team, who work from the exact same measurements and layout your designer created, not a fresh set of notes from someone who’s never seen your kitchen. If you’d like more detail on what happens between sign-off and the kitchen actually being fitted, our installation page covers the whole process step by step.

Kitchens in Essex: Your Questions Answered
Frequently Asked Questions
What kitchen ranges does Kitchens by Guy offer in Essex?
Kitchens by Guy displays four of its most popular kitchen ranges: Winslow, Zola, Versa and Aylesford. Winslow is Shaker and traditional, Zola is handleless and contemporary, Versa is modern and textured, and Aylesford is the designer and luxury range. As an independent kitchen company, Kitchens by Guy is not tied to a single manufacturer, so other ranges can be brought in.
What is the difference between the Winslow, Zola, Versa and Aylesford kitchen ranges?
Winslow has solid in-frame Shaker doors. Zola has flat, handleless fronts and pairs well with fully integrated appliances. Versa is handleless with a Weathered Silver stained finish that shows genuine timber grain rather than a flat painted surface. Aylesford is the boldest of the four, most often chosen in a deep matt Graphite finish.
Can I see kitchen doors, worktops and appliances before I order?
Yes. The Kitchens by Guy showroom on Ongar High Street holds full-size door samples, complete worktop slabs and working AEG appliances, plus handles and finishes you can see and touch before committing to anything. It holds one of the largest kitchen ranges in the area.
Where is the Kitchens by Guy showroom and when is it open?
The showroom is on Ongar High Street in Ongar, Essex. It is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 3pm on Saturdays. Browsing is free at any time. Call 01277 281 414 to arrange a slot with a designer.
Do I need an appointment to visit the kitchen showroom in Ongar?
No appointment is needed simply to browse. If you want to discuss a project with a designer, it is worth booking ahead so enough time can be set aside. Saturdays are especially popular. Call 01277 281 414 to book.
Is the kitchen design service free?
Yes. There is no fee for the home visit and no fee for the design that follows, and no obligation to place an order once you have seen it. A full design and quotation is prepared from the Ongar showroom after the visit.
What should I bring to my first kitchen design consultation?
Rough measurements of the room are useful — even a phone photo of a tape measure against a wall. Bring a note of any must-haves, a bigger fridge, a particular hob type, storage for a growing collection of cookbooks, and photos of kitchens you like. You don’t need a finished vision; most people don’t have one.
Can I see full-size kitchen samples before I buy?
Wall lengths, ceiling height, window and door positions, and anything that isn’t square or level — which is most kitchens. We also check where the existing plumbing, gas and electrics sit, and ask how you actually use the room day to day, because that shapes the layout more than the measurements do.
Will I see my kitchen design in 3D before ordering?
Yes. Layouts are produced in 3D design software and presented in person at the Ongar showroom rather than emailed as a PDF. Where there is a genuine choice, such as an island versus a peninsula, more than one layout option is usually prepared so you are choosing between real alternatives.
How long does the kitchen design process take?
From the first visit to a finished, signed-off design usually takes between two and four weeks. A simple galley kitchen with one clear layout can move faster; an open-plan kitchen-diner with several options on the table takes longer. Most projects need at least one round of revisions after the first presentation.
Which appliance brands does Kitchens by Guy work with?
Kitchens by Guy works with AEG, Miele, Franke and Quooker, and brings appliances into the design stage rather than treating them as an afterthought. Integrated AEG and Miele appliances sit flush behind cabinetry fronts, which matters more on a handleless range such as Zola than on a traditional Shaker kitchen.
Which areas does Kitchens by Guy supply and fit kitchens in?
Kitchens by Guy supplies and fits kitchens across Essex, including Ongar, Chelmsford, Brentwood, Epping, Chigwell, Loughton and Buckhurst Hill, and into North East London, covering Woodford, Wanstead, Walthamstow, Chelsea and Richmond. Projects outside these areas are considered on request.
Does Kitchens by Guy use its own fitters or subcontractors?
Installation is carried out by Kitchens by Guy’s own fitting teams, never a subcontractor. The fitters work from the same measurements and layout the designer produced, and the designer who plans your kitchen is the person you speak to if anything changes.
